AITA for not letting my friend borrow my tablet for a long trip?

For context, I have a tablet that I don’t use except for when I travel. A friend asked if she can buy it to which I said yes, then a week later she asked if she can borrow it instead for her 3 month trip.

I said no, because I am planning to go on a trip as well, so the time she wants to borrow it is the only time of the year that I dust it off to use it.

She is saying she is upset that I was willing to sell it but not lend it to her.

Am I the asshole?

Edit: For further context, this is my second screen tablet, which is why I rarely use it. She is upset because she says I could use my primary tablet i stead during my travels, which I never do because it’s too large.

    1. She is upset, since it’s my second screen tablet, not my primary one, so she said she would lend it to me if it was her :/

  1. NTA. You changed your mind about selling it, big deal. Since your friend was willing to buy your tablet, why is she 🫠 about buying her own tablet new or a refurb.

    1. No no, the problem was that I am still willing to sell it to her but not lend it. For me, the logic was if I still own it, I rather use it myself. But now she said since I am being a bad friend about it she would rather buy it elsewhere instead of from me

  2. Obviously NTA. Selling would mean you receive money to find alternate entertainment source. Lending would mean you would have nothing and even incur and opportunity cost. This is a no brainer.

And anyways, who lends an electronic device to someone for 3 months!!!???

  3. NTA the assumption with selling is that you’d be able to put that towards a new one or a device you’ll use more often. Plus idk if I would lend anything that expensive for such a long period of time and while they’re traveling. It could break, get damaged, they could lose it, it could get stolen etc. Better to just get the money for it and wash your hands of it than a possible argument over compensation.

This is all the information you need to know you’re making the right choice. This is the kind of person that absolutely will not take care of someone else’s property.

There’s a reason places don’t rent things out on the honor system.

    NTA.

  5. NTA. If anything you were being nice offering to sell it. Borrowing it for three months during the exact time you actually use it makes zero sense. I get why she’d prefer to borrow it, but being upset about it feels kinda entitled tbh.

  6. NTA That’s not a reasonable request. She should just buy one, like refurbished ones on amazon are good, and it’s also possible her library lends them.
