my (17f) friend’s 18th bday is coming up, and and my friend and I (we are all the same age) are helping her organize everything . My friend has to leave for a trip so she won’t be able to go, and since she’s the only person I talk to, I’ve lost all desire to go to the party since the birthday girl obviously has to spend some time with everyone else. The thing is that she invited people she barely talks to / she hates, just to have more people.
the party is not the date of the birthday so i think its not too bad if i don’t go. but i have to spend 2 other nights at her house if I go.
NTA. You’re helping organize the party, which is already a significant contribution, and the birthday girl invited people she doesn’t even like just for numbers. Spending two nights there when your main support person won’t be around isn’t obligatory, especially since the celebration isn’t even on her actual birthday.

Maybe try and do something with the birthday person on their birthday so you can still celebrate with them?
