AITA for Stating that I was next in line?

This morning I ordered 2 eggs at the breakfast grill line. Immediately after me, a dude asked for the same thing. The cook put four eggs to fry and so I went to get a plate and some sides. I get back to the line just as the dude is collecting his eggs. But to my consternation the cook then proceeds to give my eggs to a woman.

The cook explains that she had forgotten the lady’s order and the lady turns to me and says "I was first". I turned around and told her that I was before the guy who just got his eggs.

She gave me a withering "what an asshole" look and offered me her plate with the eggs. I declined and waited for the cook to cook 2 more eggs.

So is the lady right? AITA for pointing out that I should have gotten those eggs? Should I have kept quiet and just accepted getting the raw end of the stick of the cook’s forgetfulness?

EDIT: After dude and I ordered and we both went for plates there was no one "in line" ….lady had left the line after ordering way before we ordered (at least 3-5 mins).

EDIT2: Most commenters are missing the point. The question asked is whether I should have said anything and if not whether that makes me TA or not. I am not complaining, or mad, or asking "who was right?".

  1. ESH. The cook said she forgot the lady’s order, and that’s why she gave it to her first. It’s possible she was before you.

But regardless weren’t even in the line, so you can’t expect to receive your food before everyone else anyways unless the cook specifically hands it to you. Sounds like the cook was just giving out the eggs to whoever was ready for them, and you were not.

The lady is also TA because I don’t see why she randomly told you that she was first, assuming you didn’t make a face or say anything before that.

  2. Soft YTA. Not much to do there buddy, complaining in such a situation wont really change anything. You left the line, the cook gave the eggs to someone who was ready.

  3. YTA. If she forgot her eggs then that lady should be served first, then you, but you weren’t there, so the next person that is, gets them.

  4. Sounds like YTA to me. Eggs come off the grill quickly, and you had stepped away to grab a plate and sides, so they gave eggs to someone who was ready and waiting. I’m sure you got your eggs like 1 minute later.

Even if you hadn’t walked away, you’d only not be TA if you’d let the cook know you were next when she was about to give eggs to the guy who’d ordered after you. You intervened after that guy got eggs and before the woman (who had been skipped earlier) got eggs — what did you think would happen? The cook isn’t going to skip the woman AGAIN when you’ve only been waiting a short time, and she’s not going to take the eggs away from the man… idk what you expected

  5. YTA. Chef didn’t know when you would come back. How long should he save your eggs particularly when he had a lady there

  6. Yta- sometimes in life, you take a big deep breath and say, great day to still be alive and deal. Low paid employee is just trying to bang out eggs for everyone and you weren’t there.

  7. YTA, it actually sounds like the lady WAS there, and ordered before you and the other guy, but the cook messed up and forgot her order, and thus she should have been served before you. I suppose you could argue that you should have gotten the eggs that the other guy took, but you didn’t bother him (why not?). Also the lady DID in fact offer you her eggs, but you turned them down.

  8. So, you wandered off, declined the plate offered and suffered nothing worse than a “withering look” and a delay of maybe 2 minutes while they fried up more eggs? YTA just for wasting my time with this petty shit.
